Chris Horton on his way to setting a new V50 club record at Heaton Park
What a week it has been for club legend Chris Horton, who set his third V50 club record in seven days with his ten-mile run at Heaton Park, Manchester. His time of 60:49 in searing heat earned him 3rd place overall and took over eight minutes off the previous record set by another former club legend, Martyn Barrett, in 2015. This follows on from his win in the Burton 10K in 34:49 the previous weekend, which helped him take over four minutes off Ian Smith's nine-year-old record set at Telford in 2016. It means that he's now eclipsed Dave Hill's total of 22 club records across all categories, which is incredible. Not content with these incredible statistics, he headed out to Market Bosworth parkrun and claimed his 19th win in 20 runs this year in 17:26.
Other notable parkrun performances this week included Mark Repton and Beth Woodward 2nd at Tamworth, Rachael Browne 2nd at Kingsbury as well as Neil Rose, who broke into the top ten at Tamworth in a new pb of 20:17, sub 20 the next target.
Further afield, five intrepid Badgers toured to Munich to complete Riemer parkrun and all five made the top five. Ryan Preece (1), David Jackson (3) and Glyn Broadhurst (4) performed for the boys and Megan Griffiths (2) and Sara Wilson (3) for the girls.
Away from parkrun, David Grant and Yvonne Faulkner-Grant completed marathon distance at the Rasselbock Medal Madness in 4:15:00 and 5:14:00 respectively, and Maggi Savin-Baden travelled over to the Stratford 6, aiming for Silver plus standard times. Conditions were not conducive for fast times with temperatures reaching 27 degrees, however, with her renowned grit and determination, the time was achieved 59:30, amazing.
